Who's Who: Invisible Kid (II)

Invisible Kid
by Russell & Siskoid

Real Name: Jacques Foccart
Super-Power(s): Invisibility
Planet of Origin: Earth
Legion Seniority: Invisible Kid (II) was asked to join the Legion after he helped them defeat Computo. He was originally nominated by Brainiac 5 to take his place, but Brainy's resignation was not accepted. Invisible Kid, however, became Legionnaire #32.

Legion Log
Invisible Kid made his debut as Jacques Foccart, elder brother of Danielle Foccart. She was suffering from a rare brain disorder that Brainiac 5, Dream Girl, and Mon-El attempted to cure. Unfortunately, during the exam, she was somehow "possessed" by the robotic intelligence Computo. Acting through her, it took over the entire Legion HQ and attempted to murder all of the Legionnaires. Jacques acted quickly, drinking the invisibility serum created by the first Invisible Kid (Lyle Norg). Using his new powers, he helped the Legion defeat Computo. For his bravery, he was awarded Legion membership. And in honor of the scientist who made it possible, he took the name Invisible Kid. Eventually, Brainiac 5 cured his sister. (In a later continuity, she became a Legionnaire herself using the code-name Computo.)

During his first official case as a Legionnaire, Invisible Kid came face to face with Darkseid himself, who blasted him for his impertinence. From that time forward, Jacques has had a white streak in his hair.

Two years into his Legion membership, the invisibility serum began to affect Jacques in a different way than how it was intended; designed to work only on Lyle Norg's physiology, Jacques found himself able to open a door into the Dream Dimension and, later, to teleport in an uncontrolled way. When he visited the Dream Dimension he accidentally brought Wildfire, and they encountered who they thought was the original Invisible Kid, Lyle Norg. The second time they visited that world, they realized that this was not Lyle Norg after all. Working together, Brainiac 5, Sensor Girl, and Dr. Gym'll were able to verify that adrenaline reacting with the serum was causing these unwanted manifestations. Finally, they were able to isolate and negate this aspect of the serum. Invisible Kid could then only turn himself and things around him invisible.

Invisible Kid was friendly with all of the other Legionnaires. As a permanent member of the Legion Espionage Squad, he was close with Shrinking Violet, Phantom Girl, and Chameleon Boy. Due to their shared adventures in the Dream Dimension, he was also close to Wildfire. And due to their shared experiences as "the newbies," he was close to White Witch. He later became good friends with Sensor Girl due to their shared respect for and lack of fear of Death.

Invisible Kid stayed with the Legion until 2992, when he got sick of watching Earthgov hound Legionnaires and left to form his own underground movement in resistance to Earthgov. This movement was joined by many members of the Legion when it finally disbanded, notably the former members of the Legion of Substitute-Heroes. It was during this period of his life that he fell in love with Drura Sehpt, the former Infectious Lass. When the Dominators were finally driven from Earth after the so-called 5 Year Gap, Jacques was named Earth's president, a position he did not care for and would eventually resign from after Earth's destruction, leaving Tyroc in charge of New Earth and moving to Talus with other older Legionnaires. After Universo framed the Legion, Jacques and Drura became the Legion's advocates on Weber's World, and Invisible Kid would uncover Universo's complicity with the Khunds to clear his team mates. Shortly thereafter, he went to New Earth to assist in the transporting of the pocket universe's Earth to the real universe, but vanished due to Zero Hour shortly after the transfer has been completed.

After the Reboot, the original Invisible Kid's parents being absent, Lyle Norg was raised by the Foccard family as a prodigy, with Jacques his foster brother, lost when he tried to imbibe Lyle's invisibility serum. He would later return as a helpful ghostly presence, and it was eventually revealed that the company they had both worked for, Black Hole, had saved his life and he was working for them as a covert agent, undetectable thanks to his powers, though these caused him great pain so were seldom used. This Jacques was never a member of the Legion.

After the Threeboot, no version of Invisible Kid II seems to exist.

After Infinite Crisis, Invisible Kid's original history has more or less been re-established, and he is still a Legionnaire and has mysteriously regained his dimension-hopping powers.

Invisible Kid II had cameos in several episode of The Legion of Super-Heroes animated series, but no dialog.
