Who's Who: Dream Boy

Dream Boy
by Siskoid

Real Name: Rol Purtha
Super-Power(s): Precognition.
Planet of Origin: Naltor
Legion Seniority: Dream Boy was the first completely new Legion recruit after the Threeboot.

Legion Log
Dream Boy is one of the Legion's most mysterious members, and few even know much about him. He appeared at Legion HQ just after the death of his predecessor, Dream Girl, presumably sent by Naltor's High Seer as Nura's replacement. However, he later made a cryptic comment that contradicted that assumption.

Like Brainiac 5, Dream Boy received one of the first visits from Dream Girl in his sleep, a manifestation of her new existence in that realm, and revealed it to his colleagues. For unexplained reasons, he is now listed as "off duty".

Important Dream Boy Stories:

Supergirl and the Legion of Super-Heroes #24

about not having been sent by Naltor

tell the Legion about it in #30

Legion of Super-Heroes (v5) #39
Without explanation, Dream Boy is put on inactive duty and
effectively written out of the series

  1. Shooter clearly didn't know what to do with the character, so he just kept him on the roster as "off duty" with no explanation. Eventually he didn't even bother to spell his name right (listing him as "Dreamer"), then omitting him from the roster entirely.

I can understand that having a pre-cog on the team can put a monkey wrench in a story, but at the very least try to not be lazy about it and ignore the character in hopes that people will forget they existed. Shooter had Dream Girl's spirit blinded to prevent her from telling on Projectra, so there was no excuse for him to not write a way around Dream Boy's power.
